Position Overview:
HGM Associates is seeking a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) / Licensed Land Surveyor / Survey Party Chief to support land surveying and geospatial services for transportation infrastructure and civil engineering projects in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area. The PLS will serve as a key technical leader, providing professional oversight of survey deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and coordinating with clients and internal teams.
In this role, the PLS will oversee and perform field survey operations, including construction staking, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements and applicable standards. Responsibilities include coordinating field activities, supporting project delivery, and working closely with survey team leadership and engineering staff.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation infrastructure and land surveying projects, while developing technical expertise in survey data collection, construction layout, and geospatial analysis in both field and office environments.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical oversight and quality control for survey deliverables and field activities
- Perform field survey operations including construction staking, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys
- Collect and document survey data to support project design and construction activities
- Operate survey equipment and utilize survey software and tools (e.g., Civil 3D)
- Maintain accurate field notes, documentation, and survey records
- Prepare, review, and certify survey plats, legal descriptions, and survey documents
- Assist with survey layout and construction staking accuracy to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Coordinate with survey team leadership, engineers, and project managers during project execution
- Support survey data processing and preparation for use in design and construction deliverables
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with project specifications, state surveying regulations, standards of practice, and legal and safety requirements
Qualifications:
Required:
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 10+ year of land surveying or survey field experience
- Experience with survey project management
- Experience preparing plats and legal descriptions
- Knowledge of state surveying laws and standards
- Experience with construction staking, boundary surveys, or topographic surveys
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform fieldwork
- Strong attention to detail with solid verbal and written communication skills
Preferred:
- Technical school or Associate degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field
- Experience with survey data collection, field survey operations, and construction layout
- Familiarity with survey software and tools (e.g., Civil 3D, data collectors)
- Strong math and computer skills, including experience with Excel and survey-related software
