Land Surveying Technician

HGM currently has a full-time field position available for a Land Surveying Technician.  This position will allow for career advancement.  The position will operate out of our Council Bluffs office. We offer flex time, paid vacation, medical, dental and optical insurance along with a 401K Plan.

The successful candidate must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, pass a background check, drug screening, possess a valid driver’s license, willing to work overtime, occasionally travel out of town and stay overnight.

Job responsibilities:

Architectural Designer

HGM Associates has an immediate opening for a full time Architectural Designer

HGM provides a full array of Commercial Architectural, Engineering, Surveying and Landscape Architecture Services to the Midlands since 1960. The Architecture Department provides a diverse commercial workload in facilities types such as Educational, Fire Stations, Police Stations, Banks, City Operated Maintenance Buildings.

Duties

  • Gather design requirements for new or remodeled construction project from clients.
  • Prepare architectural drawings based on design requirements for review by client.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with clients and project team.
  • Modify and update designs as needed.
  • Manage, support and help guide team members in developing projects from concept through Construction Documents.
  • Assist in providing project cost estimates and schedules for clients to review.
  • Research and select products for project.
  • Assist in writing technical specifications for each project.
  • Assist in preparing contract documents suitable for submission to approving governmental agencies and bidding contractors.
  • Coordinate the architectural drawings with all project engineering disciplines and their associated drawings.
  • Work directly with support staff in preparing drawings and specification documents.
  • Conduct periodic on-site visits during construction to monitor compliance with plans.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Candidate must have minimum 5 years work experience as an architectural designer. Licensed preferred, but not required.
  • Experienced in commercial design and detailing.
  • Experienced in writing and putting together technical specifications.
  • Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD. Experience in Photoshop and/or CorelDRAW preferred.
  • Ability to provide direction and detail to team members.

Project Architects

Project Architects - that are seeking a long-term opportunity and will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of projects from beginning to end. You will be responsible for managing team members involved in the project, coordinate all construction documents including drawings and specifications, work directly with Clients and Contractors, and perform Construction Administration duties during construction of projects.

Responsibilities:

As a senior team member, Project Architect’s responsibilities, in conjunction with a Project Manager, include:

  • Assist in leading team members and coordinate the work of the team through multiple phases of a project.
  • Required to assist in designing and drafting plans.
  • Required to take part in meetings with Clients and incorporate their needs throughout multiple phases of a project.
  • Required to work with multi disciplines and coordinate all drawings/specifications.
  • Provide quality assurance and technical reviews throughout multiple phase of projects.
  • Required to review architectural drawings and provide technical details, red line corrections and direction on construction documents for architectural techs.
  • Required to review drawings for code compliance.
  • Meet with various governing agencies to review code compliance on projects.
  • Required to coordinate full sets of contract documents including drawings and writing architectural specifications for bidding.
  • Required to attend and conduct site meetings with Clients and Contractors.
  • Required to provide Construction Administration services such as review submittals/shop drawings, put together ASI’s, review change order requests, and answer contractor questions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Architecture degree required.
  • Registered Architect Preferred but not required.
  • Minimum two years' experience working as a Project Architect or Project Manager.
  • Strong technical project detailing and documentation skills required.
  • Experience in working directly with clients.

  • Prepare drawings from sketches, notes, details and/or verbal instructions.
  • Prepare set of plans including floor plans, elevations, sections, detail schedules, etc.

  • Submittal Management for Projects.

Civil Engineering Designer / Construction Observer

Civil Engineering Designer / Construction Observer:

HGM is looking for a highly motivated Design Technician or a Civil Engineer Intern.

Requirements: 2-year degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a 4-year degree in Civil/Construction Engineering with an FE certificate, self-motivated and able to work 8-10 hours/day and 5-6 days/week (during construction season), experienced in Microsoft programs Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and a valid driver’s license

Necessary Skills: Ability to work on a team, possess good written and verbal communication skills, able to prioritize multiple tasks, and work within critical deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Able to read and understand project plans, specifications and project schedules
  • Familiar with typical construction activities to include grading; culvert, storm and sanitary sewer installation; PCC and HMA paving; structural concrete placement; and erosion control installation
  • Daily coordination and interaction with general contractor and sub-contractors, owners personnel, utility companies, project management team, design team, and materials testing personnel
  • Certified in Iowa DOT AGG1, PCC1 and HMA Sampler preferred
  • Understanding of topographical and construction survey procedures
  • Able to read, understand and interpret design standards and guides
  • Knowledge of MicroStation and Geopak or Autocad Civil 3D
